Fiona was abandoned at the Long Beach Animal Shelter by her previous owner when they found out she was pregnant and decided they could not take care of her anymore. She is a young cocker spaniel with the most beautiful eyes and big soft ears. She was filthy, matted and very pregnant when we rescued her. At Fiona's first vet visit we learned that she has a severe heart murmur. Further diagnostics and echocardiogram discovered severe valvular pulmonic stenosis, which is a rare congenital defect causing obstruction to the blood flow out of the pulmonary arteries. We were not sure if she was going to be ok giving birth, but she gave birth to 7 precious puppies and was a great mom to them. Fiona's prognosis is guarded as she is at risk for developing congestive heart failure and she already had a couple of fainting episodes when she overexerted herself. Fiona is a young, sweet, happy girl who loves long walks, and chasing butterflies in the yard. Itβs hard for her to stay calm all of the time as all she wants to do is play. Her cardiologist thinks that a balloon valvuloplasty may increase her quality of life to minimize fainting spells, sadly it will not cure her heart condition. We are trying to raise the funds for the surgery, it looks like that will be $8000-$9000 but we are also looking for her forever home, one who understands that she is not likely to have a full lifespan. If you are able to donate to her care, please visit https://pupsandpals.net/how-can-you-help/ This dog is not available to an out of the area adoption because of difficulty to follow up and how stressful it would be for her travel. If you do not live within a 2 hr drive of Orange County, please do not apply. If you are interested in adopting one of our rescues, please visit our main website for adoption procedures at www.pupsandpals.net and then fill out our application. We do not have a shelter/kennel, our pets are fostered all over LA and Orange County. This pet is vaccinated, microchipped, and has had a brief temperament evaluation to help us determine what type of a home he/she would thrive in. She is not able to go through anesthesia for spay due to her condition and will be one of the very few dogs that will be adopted unspayed. Please note that we put lots of time and effort to make sure our pets are ready to be someone's perfect pet before they go home.... and to make sure that we will have the best possible match for this pet we do require an : application, interview, adoption fee and in some case a home check. Listed for adoption: 9/23/23 Adoption fee: To be discussed, we do want to make sure you can provide her daily medication and care. PLEASE DO NOT call or email to see if a pet is available. We update our pages daily so if he/she is pictured here in the available dogs section, we are accepting applications at this time. View full description »

April is a female 4 year old maltese mix, maybe with yorkie. She was hit by a car and picked up by local animal control. Unfortunately she had a broken hip her and had FHO surgery to help her recovery. Here is more information about FHO (https://vcahospitals.com/know-your-pet/femoral-head-ostectomy-fho-in-dogs). She is doing well, slowing starting to use that back leg, but she shouldnt be running any marathons. April is 10.5 lbs and so sweet, with the prettiest eyes and expression. Sadly, we are no longer able to respond to every application, but if your application appears to be a good match for the dog we will reach out within 5 days. Toad is a male frenchie born around 2/2023. He is a beautiful, merle colored boy with one blue eye. Toad is around 17 lbs now and very handsome. oad is VERY sweet, makes friends easily and loves to follow his people around and sit on your feet. He is a precious, loving, snuggly boy who is a nice mixture of play and laziness. Toad was abandoned at a vet's office with a rectal prolapse, that has now been repaired but at times those do re-occur so his new owner will need to be ok with that possibility. Additionally, when he has a limp and x-rays showed some elbow dysplasia (common for the breed) and an old fracture. An orthopedic vet said surgery was too risky as there was just as much possibility of doing more harm then good. He does not seem super unhappy about it and is now on anti-inflamatory meds to help him along. He runs and plays and has a good time and is completely unaware of his issues. We are hoping to place him in a home savy with the breed and able address any medical concerns he may have in the future as frenchies are prone to all sorts of things. He is great with kids/cats/dogs and loves snuggling, he is the sweetest boy! Most of our dogs are not available to an out of the area adoption because of difficulty to follow up. Kookie is a little female poodle mix, maybe maltipoo. She is around 8.5 lbs and 2.5 years old. Kookie came to us very pregnant and she has been a great mom to her babies, but now its time for her to find her forever home. Kookie is a sweet little girl who makes friends when she is out in public and is the cutest with her curls and big eyes. At home she is much more drawn to females and can be a bit protective when men/kids walk too fast through the house, so a quieter home or a home with females owner may be best for her. She would also love a small dog playmate as she can be vocal when alone, but is great with a doggy friend. She is a snuggle, precious house dog and has pretty good house manners. Kookie has some slightly neurological movemenents, we are not sure what happened in her past, but sometimes her had bobs a little side to side. We cannot tell if she did not have some old trauma, but it does not bother her at all. Most of our dogs are not available to an out of the area adoption because of difficulty to follow up. Kate McKinnin is a female pup born to a maltipoo mom on 7/8/23, We did not see her dad but were told he was a chihuahua, the whole litter looks a lot like terriers though, just with softer fur. She is a tiny, sweet, social little girl with the cutest face and ears. She was raised in a home with dogs/kids/cats and loves everyone. Kate is very playful and loves to run around and play, she is the smallest pup in the litter. Our best guess is that she will mature at 8-12 lbs but that is just an estimate. We do not think these puppies are "hypoallergenic" and do not recommend them to homes with allergies. This baby will be ready for adoption sometime between 9/7 and 9/11 but we are accepting applications now. This pup is not available to an out of the area adoption because of difficulty to follow up. Gigi Mae is a little female chihuahua born in 2017. She is just 6.5 lbs and the sweetest little girl, she loves everyone and is happy to follow you around with a smile on her face. Gigi is very social and loves attention and love. She is pretty good on the leash, likes being held and will make an amazing pet. Gigi has been struggling with skin issues for years, her previous owners said that the last couple of years have been hard for them and could not afford to treat her. We are doing our best to have her regrow most of her hair but as some of this hair loss has been for a very long time, she may not get all of her hair back. She also had bad knees (typical of a small chihuahua) but she gets around just fine and does not seem to be in any discomfort. She will be having a dental cleaning prior to adoption. Gigi likes other dogs as long as they are not too roudy and is pretty good on the leash. Most of our dogs are not available to an out of the area adoption because of difficulty to follow up. Arbor is a male goldendoodle (mini poodle /goldendoodle mix) born 3/2/23. He is 14 lbs now and we believe he will mature between 25-35 lbs. Arbor was surrendered by his breeder to rescue when he became a bit too old to sell, most people are looking for puppies who are tiny, but we actually believe this age is much easier, they have more bladder control for housetraining and are just past the major teeting/biting age. Arbor is very sweet but also a little shy at first and he will need a bit of socialization.... once he spends a few minutes he loves to run and play. Arbor gets along with other dogs and is working on learning to walk on the leash but as all babies he will need lots of training, from housetraining, to leash walking to learning house manners. Please keep in mind doodles need to be groomed every 6-8 weeks and brushed several times a week. We do not promise any of our dogs to be "hypoallergenic". This dog is not available to an out of the area adoption because of difficulty to follow up. If you do not live within a 2 hr drive of Orange County, please do not apply. Nixon is a male mix breed born around 8/2021 . He is 15.5 lbs and our best guess is that he is some combo of doxie/corgi/min pin/chihuahua.... he has a shiny coat, short legs and very expressive ears. His little face has some white hair which makes him look very distinguished. Nixon was found in an abandoned house with a bunch of other dogs who had to fend for themselves. He so much wants his own family, he is sweet once he takes a few to trust you, gives kisses and is very curious. Nixon is very food motivated and loves all sorts of treats. He is scared of new places and prefers being carried to being on a leash for now, but he is learning. Chiquis is a female 4-5 year old chihuahua mix, maybe with rat terrier or doxie. Chiquis is very sweet, loving, likes to follow people around and is very attentive. Chiquis is 9.5 lbs with very cute freckles. Chiquis came to us with a smaller left eye thats a bit cloudy. To the best of what we can tell it looks like an old injury and whatever site she has in that eye is very limited but that does not stop her from being amazing. She is good on the leash and such a sweet girl. She had a dental cleaning too. Chiquis is very attentive to people and while she can live with dogs, she would do great as an only dog too. Please read the dog's entire bio before you contact us. This pet is a courtesy listing through our rescue and not in our care so we do not have any further information. If you would like to learn more about him or to meet him please email joshua.vega9234@gmail.com. Zeke is a male 3.5 year old neutered pitty mix. He is housebroken, playful when outside and calm inside. Zeke is timid with new people but warms up in a little time. Zeke is good with older children and has some minor allergies. The reason he is being rehomed is that he is not getting along with the other pet in the home. He would do best as an only dog or possibly with a submissive housemate. This pet is altered and vaccinated. Listed for adoption: 5/23/23 Adoption fee is $150 View full description »
Please read the dog's entire bio before you apply. Sadly, we are no longer able to respond to every application, but if your application appears to be a good match for the dog we will reach out within 3 days. Tennyson is a male 20 lb mix breed, he looks like a small border collie/spaniel type. He is about 1.5 years old and very sweet. Tennyson is good on the leash, social, outgoing and sweet with other dogs. Tennyson is a good little house pet who loves playtime and would do best with a doggy buddy. We will only place him in a home with a doggy playmate. He gets a little car sick with long rides, so may not be the best long distance travel buddy, but he sure does love shorter outings and the beach. Please read the dog's entire bio before you apply. Sadly, we are no longer able to respond to every application, but will contact the one that is a good match within 3 days. Brewster is a male 2 yr old, 20 lb pug mix.... either puggle (pug /beagle) or chug (pug/chihuahua). Brewster is a timid boy, he gets scared easily of new places and new people but in a home he is a very sweet boy. He does better on anti anxiety medications as he gets overly stimulated and reactive. He will need a dog savy home willing to take their time with him, slow but constant socialization, training, patience. He is very clingy once he decides to trust you (and it doesnt take long at all). A nice calm/social dog may help him by showing him appropriate behavior. Because he is so fearful a home without children is best as visiting friends may be too much for now. He is pretty good on the leash, loves to walk or run in quiet places and very cute. He enjoys getting in the car for rides too. Brewster loves the company of other dogs and gets along with them so well. Most of our dogs are not available to an out of the area adoption because of difficulty to follow up.
